POST 293 SALUTES PURPLE HEART RECEPIENT CPL MICHAEL BIRD - USMC On September 19th Corporal Bird was awarded a plaque from Post 293 in honor of his sacrifice for his country. Cpl. Bird was a 2003 graduate of Watchung Hills High School in Warren. He entered the Marines in December, 2006. During active duty he served in Iraq and Afghanistan as a mechanic with the 3/6 Marines. On July 8th, 2010 an IED blew him out of his gunners turret on a 7 ton armored vehicle. Cpl. Bird recovered from his injuries and was awarded the Purple Heart upon his return to the States. |
